Colette and I love to visit flowers. It sounds so simple, and it is. Small things - and a baby teaches a person to love the most minute details. But the thing about gardens is that they are the definition of democratic aesthetics. The best prints and patterns are found in the most accessible spots - outside - the plants. Anyone can go to this garden (Fort Tryon) where the beauty is partitioned freely. There is a good sign sitting among these flowers: "Let no one say, and say it to your shame, that all was beauty here, until you came."
A serene and unruffled part of the city...my dad told me it was once the most visited monument in the country - funny because a lot of New Yorkers today have probably never been here.
