Dreams do come true.
Look at me. To be very clear, this is a photo of me holding a hedgehog. If you've been following along, this was my castle in the air. My dream. When I moved to France and found out that the French love these spiny fellows (hérissons are everywhere in France, in both live and representational form), it was the first indication that I would love the French. I bonded with so many people in France regarding this creature. Numerous conversations were spun around the hérisson. Remember that a phrase for two French men who haven't shaved and are greeting each other with kisses is: "les hérissons se disent bonjour" (two hedgehogs saying hello). Who could not love a people with lyrical references like that?
This hedgehog, who goes by Coco Chanel Hérisson (Chanel for short), is officially Andrew's. This was his grand Christmas present and surprise. All I have to say about that is there is something wrong in the birth order of our family. I should have landed around the time when my parents (apparently) get their children any fancy or whim. (There are 17 years and 5 children between me and Andrew). Sigh.

She is a cutie and I can see how you might be a bit jealous. You should get your own little herisson.
On a side note: Every night at dinner we have a question we ask and discuss. Last night's question was, "What special talent do you wish you possessed?" Jonathan's answers was surprising and sweet. He said he wished he could speak French so he could talk to Marguerite! He really likes that girl!
oh jill that is sweet...he can speak french you know...send him our way one summer and he and marguerite can chat and chat and chat. she always directs in french, even when everyone else is speaking english, so he would pick it up quickly.
I've always been under the impression that there are no hedgehogs native to North america. Is this one an import, or (gasp!) am I wrong?
Cute little critter. Maybe he/she has relatives for you to adopt?
shelli, this is true true. there are no hedgehogs in north america, except in pet form...so chanel has been imported from somewhere in africa. i hope she enjoys her stay in the usa...and yes, i am looking into her family line...;)
i have to clear up one thing, i paid for this thing so birth order had nothing to do with it!!!
good distinction andrew...;)
